PROGRAMME VALUE
Sub-€0.5M specialist package
TIMELINE
10 months, across one winter
ROLE
Founder & delivery lead, specialist envelope contractor
MAIN CHALLENGE
Performing under an international GC’s formal certification regime
SITUATION

A public school delivered under a tier-one international general contractor: windows, doors and cladding installation, governed by a full contractual apparatus — bill of quantities, time schedule, 65 pages of technical specifications, and a formal payment-application and certification regime with retention and pay-less notices.

CHALLENGE

International GCs run their supply chains on documentation discipline. A specialist contractor that cannot produce certifiable monthly applications, indexed correctly and reconciled to measured quantities, doesn’t survive the first assessment cycle — regardless of site performance.

DECISION

Match the GC’s governance rather than resist it: monthly applications built to certification standard, indexation calculated against the national building index and shown transparently, every variation documented before invoicing.

EXECUTION

Ten payment cycles, each assessed and certified by the contractor’s quantity surveyors; site works compressed through a sub-Arctic winter to protect the school-calendar deadline.

OUTCOME

Package completed in ten months. Every application certified; the relationship survived the audit trail — which, in a tier-one supply chain, is the definition of success.

LESSONS FOR BOARDS
  • Supply-chain quality is visible in paperwork before it is visible on site. Certification discipline is delivery capability.
  • If a specialist can pass an international GC’s assessment regime, that is stronger qualification evidence than any reference letter.
EXECUTIVE INSIGHT

A programme is only as investable as its payment-certification trail.
